Liverpool, UK

Travel

Liverpool University is located in the city centre. Here are directions for getting to the university.

The conference itself will be hosted on campus.

If you are flying in from abroad, then we recommend that you fly to one of the two closest airports:

• Liverpool airport (LPL) offers mostly European flights with Easyjet and Ryanair but has a good international service via Amsterdam with KLM. There are frequent buses running to the city centre. Alternatively, a taxi journey to the city centre takes around 20 minutes. For further information, consult www.liverpoolairport.com

• Manchester airport (MAN) is served by most major airlines. There are direct rail links from Manchester airport to Liverpool Lime Street, which takes approximately 1 hour, or with changes in Manchester city centre (1.5 hrs). Train tickets cost approximately £12.

There are also coach services from the airport to Liverpool. For further information, consult www.manchesterairport.co.uk

Airport transfers: Some of us have used 'Mayfair travel' for years, they are ultra reliable and will arrange for delegates to share a car (and cost) where possible. A one way transfer between Manchester airport and Liverpool costs ca £35 and takes under one hour.

The person to talk to is Les Bushel, email mayfairles@btinternet.com, tel +44 796 062 9466 or +44 151 430 0702.

London Airports:

Another option would be to fly to London and travel from there by rail or by coach. However, we would recommend that you avoid this option where possible since it will be both more time consuming and more expensive overall – remember to consider both onward travel from the arrival airport to and from London when considering costs.

• London airports: You can take a train from London Euston Station to Liverpool (over 2 hrs) or a coach from London Victoria (approx 4 to 5 hours). It takes approximately 1 hour to travel from London airports to onward stations in London.

An alternative travel method may be by rail, or by ship. www.seat61.com provides a wealth of information on travelling to and from the UK without flying.

Accommodation

Please go to the Hotel Booking Site to find hotels near the University. The closest to the venue is probably the Hope Street Hotel, but the site will also provide you information about distances.

HOTEL BOOKING SITE

The above link to the Hotel Booking Site will allow you to book a hotel from a selection of hotels. A fuller list is available from www.visitliverpool.com (select city centre as the area). There are many hotels nearby because the conference venue is in a central location.

However if you are a student and are looking for really cheap accommodation the system may not be ideal for you. Here are a few links to very inexpensive places to stay. The organisation of the conference takes no responsibilities and these are only links provided as hints for people on a tight budget.
